What’s the difference between an architect and an interior designer?

Architects and interior designers are both in demand for interior design services. However, their impact on your interior is not the same.

ARCHITECTS AND INTERIOR DESIGNERS DON’T STUDY THE SAME SUBJECTS

The fundamental distinction between architects and interior designers lies in the training they receive. An interior decorator doesn’t need any specific training to practise his profession. Architects, on the other hand, are required to provide proof of higher education (Bac+5) in art or architecture. Thanks to these qualifications, they can join the French Council of Interior Architects (CFAI) or the National Union of Interior Architects (UNAID), which guarantees their legitimacy and authority to practice as interior designers.

ARCHITECTS AND INTERIOR DESIGNERS PROVIDE DIFFERENT SERVICES

The interior decorator’s role is essentially advisory. He or she will guide you in your choice of interior style, colors, furniture, style of furniture (classic or contemporary) and the like. He’ll guide you in the way you decorate your home to make it look as good as possible. His know-how comes from his natural taste and general knowledge of the arts. An architect, on the other hand, not only has the ability to provide you with this expertise, but is also in a position to decide on the ergonomics best suited to your interior. In this respect, the architect’s skills are broader and more extensive than those of the interior decorator. He decides on the aesthetics of your interior, the layout of the rooms, and the ideal opening and structure of the rooms to let in the light. During the creation of his plans, he thinks about combining comfort and practicality, giving you a practical interior that’s also well thought out from an aesthetic point of view.

WHERE DO ARCHITECTS AND INTERIOR DESIGNERS COME TOGETHER?

Architects and interior designers may be different professions, but they do have one thing in common. To give a home’s interior an aesthetic appearance, you need to have a few prerequisites. Both architects and interior designers need to have good taste and a certain know-how when it comes to decorating. Since this is the main service on which these two professions agree, it’s possible to contact either of them for help. Both architects and interior decorators are able to meet all your decorating needs, whether you’re looking for a new look or a more modern interior. It’s worth pointing out, however, that it’s wiser to call on an architect rather than an interior decorator for technical matters, since the architect’s qualifications are more appropriate in most cases.
